06 April 2025: 1 Kings 15:25-18:46

The stage is set. Ahab's reign, characterised by blatant idolatry, provokes a fierce divine response. Elijah's challenge on Mount Carmel, a fiery spectacle, reveals the impotence of false gods. One can almost sense the palpable tension, the sheer audacity of Elijah's stand. This prompts reflection on what principles we, ourselves, are willing to defend.

07 April 2025: 1 Kings 19–22

Elijah's weariness, his flight, and the still, small voice serve as a reminder that even the strongest among us experience doubt and vulnerability. Subsequently, the confrontation with Ahab, and the prophetic pronouncements of doom, follow. It is a reminder of how easily we can lose sight of God in moments of fear.

08 April 2025: 2 Kings 1–3

Elijah's departure, and Elisha's succession, mark the transfer of prophetic authority and the commencement of a new chapter. We witness the continued conflict between Israel and its neighbours, and the reliance placed upon the prophetic word.

09 April 2025: 2 Kings 4–5

Elisha's miracles, including the multiplication of oil, the restoration of a child to life, and the healing of Naaman, are not merely displays of power, but also glimpses of God's compassion and provision. It prompts one to consider how frequently we overlook the everyday miracles that surround us.

10 April 2025: 2 Kings 6–8

Invisible armies and divine protection, along with Elisha's insight into the enemy's plans, and the siege of Samaria and the desperate measures taken by the people, illustrate the power of God over the physical world.

11 April 2025: 2 Kings 9–12

Jehu's bloody purge, the violent overthrow of Ahab's dynasty, serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of sin and the swiftness of divine judgement. One is compelled to consider the cost of disobedience.

12 April 2025: 2 Kings 13–15

The decline of Israel continues, characterised by the repetition of old patterns and the cyclical nature of sin and its consequences. It is a sombre reflection on the human capacity to disregard warnings.
