The Scrutinies are a series of three rites that take place on three consecutive Sundays during Lent, in which those preparing for baptism, known as the elect, undergo a period of deeper reflection and conversion. These rites are an essential part of their spiritual journey, helping them to examine their lives and grow in their commitment to Christ.
During each Scrutiny, the elect are prayed over by the parish community as they seek God’s strength and healing. These rites are moments of spiritual purification and enlightenment, where the elect are encouraged to cast off the darkness of sin and embrace the light of Christ.
As a parish, we gather to support and pray for the elect, affirming our own need for God’s grace and renewal. The Scrutinies remind us all of our ongoing conversion and the call to live as faithful disciples of Jesus.
