Our vision for St Mary’s is that it may be a welcoming, prayerful, and inclusive worshipping community, where all people are able to journey in faith together.
St. Mary’s Church Sunderland upholds and teaches the truths of the Catholic faith which we have received from the Bible and Sacred Tradition.
We are a community that endeavours to be rooted and founded in love. We are called to live out the Gospel values, most especially in striving to love God and our neighbour in our own lives.
Here at St Mary’s we are passionate about helping to serve people in our local community. We try and do this in various ways but most practically through forms of social outreach. We provide a weekly safe space for the homeless, as well as for Asylum Seekers and Refugees. We also provide social activities for people young and old. Find out more on our events page.
We are first and foremost a worshipping community, gathered in prayer, nourished and sustained by the Sacraments, and supporting each other in prayer and deed.
We are a flourishing community striving to discover and learn more about our faith, for our own benefit and to help us be more equipped to spread the joy of the Gospel.
We endeavour to be a self-giving community, offering what we can to help those in need both locally and further afield.
We are a missionary community, called to be joyful witnesses to the Gospel and through our lives bringing Christ to others without judgement but with compassion and love.
